What is a dental veneer?
Dental veneers sometimes called tooth veneers, porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to correct both color and shape problems.
When is a dental veneer needed?
Porcelain veneers can be used to repair minor tooth imperfections and defects. Porcelain veneers can often be an effective method by which to make cosmetic changes in teeth that are chipped, worn, stained, crooked, or discolored. Teeth enamel discoloration can be caused by staining, aging, or chemical damage or naturally discolored, such as teeth with tetracycline or fluorosis staining. Common causes of teeth discoloration are medications, coffee, tea or cigarettes. Genetics play an important role, some people have naturally whiter enamel than others.
